6 places to enjoy food and drinks at Chorley, Lancashire that will not burn your pockets

A Mille Feuille Starter Of Creamy Lancashire C...

The following are some of the places in Chorley where you can find food and drinks. Chorley is a small village in Lancashire, North of England which has a lot to go for.

Like most Lancashire villages originally its prosperity came through the cotton sector. In the 1970s, the town was dominated by factory chimneys, but most are by now demolished.

Chorley cake is Chorley's most famous food.

This listing is from my personal experience, but also a popular selection based on other people's reviews extracted from the GoMy Chorley community site.

Chorley's most famous food is the Chorley cake - this could be a subject all of its own.

1. The Chorley Cake Street Fair - The fair takes place between Thursday, October 11 and Sunday, October 14.

The fair gets its name from a Chorley mayor who launched a competition to bake the world's biggest Chorley cake for the event. A fantastic display of the town's public spirit, with fun for all.

2. The Farmers Market (Variety of good foods) - Market Street, Chorley

Chorley Council organise the specialist food markets along Market Street to give business a boost for existing traders by encouraging more frequent shoppers and visitors and offering local people a range of choice.

3. Fredericks (Ice Cream) 񵟩 263154 - Bolton Road, Chorley, PR7 4AL

There is nothing better than choosing from one of approximately 40 ice cream flavours on a warm day. The number of people queuing at Fredericks confirms this is a number one destination.

Of course, all the ice cream are made by Fredericks and they also have a store at a Chill Factor. And they certainly know their tastes! I always go for lumps - cookies and cream, rum and raisin, vanilla and white chocolate.

It is packed every Sunday, even when it is bombing down! but what Sundays are always begin with the diet from Monday!

It's packed every Sunday, even when it's bombing down! But that's what Sundays are for - diets always start on a Monday!

4. Glovers Bakers (Bakers & Confectioners) 01257 263 347 - 4 Talbot Row, Chorley, PR7 6HS

Glovers make superb freshly baked pies; you can't go wrong with any of them, whether you prefer steak, cheese & onion, butter, or chilli pie.

5. Loy Kee (Chop Suey Bar) 01257 271 677 - 60 Steeley Lane, Chorley, PR6 0RD

Always great food, and excellent service, you really feel welcome here.

6. The Barons Rest (Pubs, Bars and Inns) 01257 277 576 - Hallgate, Chorley, PR7 1XAI hope you find this information interesting and thank you for taking the time to read it.

The Best Way to lose weight is to add your Food and Drink daily intake!

It may sound counterintuitive, but according to some dietitians and nutritionists, the best way to dispose of unwanted weight is actually to increase your intake of some of your food and beverage.

However, before you order any meaty pizza delivery with double layer of cheese, you should consider carefully what foods and beverages you should help yourself to, in order to scale down your bathroom scale. Stocking up on pizzas, oily meat and double heaping of cheese is not the best way to dispose of weight.

But there are some other foods you can eat as much as you can, whenever, wherever as far as possible.

1. Vegetables top the list very easily. Two or three servings a day are recommended. It should be about 1 cup of raw vegetables or ½ cup of lightly cooked vegetables per meal dish. However, you can increase this if you are less than satisfied with what is on your plate.

Raw vegetables have most of its nutrients intact, which means that you can obtain the most benefits of eating these washed, peeled and simply cut. Dieticians and nutritionists have also recommended these as healthy snacks in case you come down with a serious case of munchies. Some of the best raw vegetables you can munch on are: carrots, celery, cucumber, fennel, lettuce, and all sorts of herbs.

However, if you instead prefer cooked vegetables, make sure that these are lightly cooked (steamed, or grilled) and that these are not more than marinated or swimming in oil or broths produced of heavy creams. It is really very easy to remember which vegetables you can increase in your meals. These would be the vibrantly colored vegetables.

2. There are certain fruits that you can increase in your daily meals. With regards to the fact that not all fruits are recommended to consume on large quantieis because they may contain high levels of fats, or have adverse effects on your health altogether. Avocadoes, apricots, mangoes are high in fat so these must be limited. However, you can go all out on some of the more fibrous fruits. Peppers and tomatoes are fruits that are very often used in cooking and can be eaten raw or lightly cooked. Apples, cantaloupes, pears, water melons are also particularly great because these contain high quanities of liquid and fiber. Bananas should be limited to one piece per serving, or a maximum of 3 per day.

Try to eat the fruits as they are. Juicing them can make it easier to swallow, but it also releases sorbitol compounds (from the natural sugars of the fruits). And sorbitol is not a good compound to take in large quantities because these trigger hunger pangs as well as food cravings. Eat the fruits as a whole and fresh. These are much better than eating them dried or pickled or dipped in caramel.

3. Water is always the good part when it comes to the best way to lose weight. 8 glasses of water per day is the recommended volume. However, you can increase this as much as you want, as long as you know that you are drinking safe drinking water. Try to steer clear of those that contain flavors, because these contain and increase your calories. Other liquids like sports drinks, tea, coffee, and cola may contain water, but these contain other ingredients that may not be safe to drink in large quantities. Even the innocuous tea contains caffeine which can speed up the heart'rate. Stick to plain, unflavored water, and you can literally have as much as you want.

Considerations of Breast Feeding and Drinking Mothers

picture of baby boy sucking from mother breast

Many mothers have stopped to read the ingredients on a product label. They squeeze, scratch, sniff, poke, punch and probe their way through the produce sections in supermarkets. For breast feeding as well as drinking mothers they engage in similar activities for slightly different reason.

They are less concerned that the child refuse to eat what is on their plate - toddlers. They are less concerned on the quality and credibility of the company that makes the baby formula. However, they do have to be concerned about the quality of food and beverages.

When the mother breast feeds her baby, she is the formula factory. Her body breaks down the food and beverage she consumes and readies it for delivery. It is up to the mother to eat healthy food and drink nutritious beverages. If her diet is lacking in important nutrients, her baby will most likely suffers. It is therefore up to her to keep her milk production top notch.

For a nursing mother, a huge block of chocolate cake may be begging to be eaten by her. But, she of course knows carrots and celery will be better for her baby. Decisions must be made on a daily basis, as to what would be best for herself and her baby. If her diet is not to her baby's liking, the bottle will not be pushed away. Her baby may refuse to be nursed and continue to cry from hunger.

She also must be concerned about what she drinks. Liquids enter the blood stream and digestive system, and pumps through the body long before solid food. If she drinks sugary drinks too often, her baby will suffer the consequences in their growth and development. Rather than sugary drinks, she could drop pieces of apple, oranges, and a few grapes into a blender, add milk and make herself a fruit drink. What would the benefits be?

She as the mother, would have a supply of complex carbohydrates, iron and other minerals whic are necessary for the proper development and growth of young bodies. She would have the benefits of a good and health drink that would not add pounds and calories. If she has a medical condition, she reduces her chances of creating a medical emergency, and having someone searching her body for any medic alert bracelet or necklace.

Careful selection of what a nursing mother eats and drinks will not have her bursting through her clothings, but it will help her feel good about how she looks in whatever she is wearing. She will likely ignore the advice offered for quick pump me ups that only bring her crashing down later. She will also notice when fatigue sticks, it sticks around for a shorter period or a short period.

When breast feeding and drinking mothers are eating and drinking the good stuff, good things happen to their bodies. The outcome is their babies grow normally and are also happier. As a family, when good stuff is going in, generally healthy kids will be coming out.

Food and Mood, what is the link?

on the field of wheat

As suggests through a survey of 200 people, eating certain foods can improve mental health.

Researchers claimed that 88 per cent of studied subjects reported that their mental health improved significantly after changing their diet. Twenty six per cent said they had seen large improvements in mood swings, 26 per cent in panic attacks and anxiety and 24 per cent in depression, according to a report on the study by BBC Health.

The survey by the Food and Mood Project was backed by the mental health charity Mind, which has previously found a link between food and mood. Findings were presented to a conference in London.

The participants said that cutting down on food 'stressors' and increasing the amount of 'supporters or supporting foods' they eat helped to improve their mood. Stressors were foods such as sugar (80 per cent), caffeine (79 per cent), alcohol (55 per cent) and chocolate (53 per cent). Supporters or supporting foods included water (80 per cent), vegetables (78 per cent), fruit (72 per cent) and oil-rich fish (52 per cent).

The report noted that not skipping breakfast and having regular meals were also highlighted as ways to boost mental health. Around a third of people studied said they were 'very certain' that the improvements they had seen to their mental health were directly linked to the changes they had made to their diet.

One participant reported:: "There is a definite link between food and mood, but I do lapse and when I do I feel noticeably different. Once you find out your triggers you can feel so much better."

Amanda Geary, who wrote a report based on the survey's findings, when talking to BBC News Online: "This survey shows that for these people, there were quite strong findings in terms of the association between the dietary changes they made and the benefits they were reporting. A lot of these changes are very simple things that people can do and are fairly safe, and concur with healthy eating advice."

While admitting that the survey was entirely "subjective", Amanda Geary said: "I hope that these findings will add strength to a growing body of evidence to encourage healthcare providers and individuals to learn from the powerful testimonies in this report that the health of the body can directly influence the health of the mind (here we are referring to moods also."

Richard Brook who is chief executive of Mind, talked to the BBC: "At a simple level we all know certain foods are good for us or can affect our mood. However, linking real information and evidence with effective ways of using it can be a really efficient tool in managing your mental health. In the last 12 months I have personally heard many examples of how people are managing their own recovery partly by using some of the concepts behind the food and mood approach."

Food and Beverages to Avoid Before Bedtime

Two Little Farmers Asleep in the Hay

A strange piece of advice points to our diets as to why we are unable to sleep and that there are certain food and drink items that can be prime suspects in making us unable to sleep. The timing of your meals is important to get right as our bodies have a natural rhythm where food is expected, at this time our bodies will produce enzymes and prepare itself for the food it is expecting.

If we eat too late especially very near bedtime, our metabolic rate and our energy levels can increase at a time when they should be slowing down, it is recommended that you do not eat a large meal any less than 2 hours before go to sleep. If possible it is recommended that you have a larger meal during the day and a smaller one or even just a snack in the evening to help keep your body's natural rhythm.

There are some foods that contain a substance called Tryptophan, this can help the brain produce a hormone known as Serotonin, Serotonin helps to promote sleep and is often referred to as the 'sleep hormone'. There are many items of food that contain the necessary ingredients to help promote the production of this sleep hormone such as milk, eggs, meat, fish and cheese. Cheese in particular is a product rich in Tryptophan that is despite the urban myth that cheese can cause you to have nightmares; you are much more likely to have plenty of decent sleep from eating cheese! But of course, not excessively, meaning in moderation!

Obviously drinks such as cola, coffee and other fizzy drinks include levels of caffeine and sugar; these substances should be avoided in the evening and even in the late afternoon. Many children will drink sugary drinks with their dinner and this may mean difficulty in getting to sleep in the evening as their abundance of energy is topped up. A better choice would be milk or natural fruit juices and this goes for adults as caffeine and sugar have just the same effect on them too.

So for a good night's sleep make sure you take care of what you eat and when you eat it, it could make the difference between a pleasant night's sleep and a night of tossing and turning. The key to getting good amounts of sleep as well as food is good quality mattresses and a bed that is comfortable for you personally. There are many double beds and king size beds available for you to choose from as well.

Save money on food and beverages

3d puppet, carrying in hands the big bag of mo...

The weekly grocery shopping bill is the biggest expense after housing for many people. While it is difficult to save money on mortgages and rentals, there are plenty of savings to be made by being careful with food and drink expenditure.

Plan a week's worth of meals, create a list of ingredients and only purchase these items you need. By sticking to this, no food will go to waste and you will be less tempted to purchase extras. When you are in the supermarket where possible try to purchase house brands. You will find them cheaper than leading brands and often the product tastes very similar if not almost the same.

When you visit your supermarket do not go in hungry. Research suggests that you will spend around Ǵ% more when you food shop hungry as compared to shopping after a meal.

Buy in bulk. Markets and greengrocers will give good deals or discounts on produce if you buy in larger quantities. Supermarkets often have BOGOF (Buy One Get One Free) offers. Take advantage of these offers. You may consider freezing the extra items for use in the future. Grow your own, find an allotment or convert part of your garden into a vegetable patch. You will be surprised by the savings and how good home grown produce tastes.

Shop around, do not just stick with one shop and compare prices. Special offers tend to move from one chain to the next so use price comparison sites to find the best deals before you shop. Buy local. By supporting your local farmers market more money makes its way back to the local economy. Check out old seasonal gifts or "housekeep" your kitchen - there may be food hampers full of luxury food and drinks that you have forgotten about.

Try to cook what you planned for in your recipe, this way you will only use the ingredients you have bought and not the extras. Do not cook large portions, when cooking pasta and rice use a mug to measure out the amount needed. Consider taking a packed lunch to work, cook up a bit more of an evening put it in Tupperware and freeze them.

Once you have finished cooking, use up the leftovers. The end of a chicken, cut offs of vegetables can be turned into stock or a tasty homemade soup. Do not buy bottled water or soft drinks. Drink tap water! A water filter will do wonders if your tap water is not too nice or just leave a glass of tap water in a window for around 30 minutes for the chlorine taste to go away.

Be mindful of your spending and you will be sure to succeed in saving.

Scare Up a Great Halloween Party!

halloween pumpkin with autumn leaves close up

Halloween Games

Children love easy Halloween games. Instead of the classic pin the tail on the donkey, consider pinning a creepy hat on a poster of a witch. Consider craft stations for preschoolers where they can dig in and make fun Halloween crafts such as ghost suckers made with a lollipop, a facial tissue and a ribbon to tie them all together.

Party-goers of all ages enjoy classic Halloween games like bobbing for apples, blindfolded food guesses with spaghetti for brains and peeled grapes representing eyeballs and a Halloween murder mystery sure to scare up some fun.

Spooky, Scary Halloween Party Food

Great parties mean great food! Traditional fare can include caramel apples, pumpkin shaped sugar cookies and bowls full of roasted pumpkin seeds.

If you're feeling a little more adventurous, Halloween gives party hosts the perfect opportunity to create some spooky, scary food. Enjoy the looks on your guests faces when you serve disgusting bloodshot eyeballs made with hard boiled eggs, olives and a little red food coloring. Other favorite treats are cookies shaped like amputated fingers or a kitty litter cake made out of crumbled cake and partially melted tootsie rolls. Halloween is one of the only times you can get away with serving guests food that is delicious and yet repulsive.

Other options for delicious, spooky themed party food include Jell-O worms made with drinking straw molds, black 'bat' wings made with BBQ chicken wings and a little black food coloring and cockroaches made with pitted dates, walnuts and cream cheese. Whether you're throwing a party for children or an adults' only affair, your guests will get a kick out of these disgusting, yet delicious snacks.

Haunting Halloween Drinks

Halloween parties often last late into the evening, making these parties an ideal situation to serve triple diamond energy drinks. These triple diamond energy drinks come in a variety of flavors so they are a great mix in, whether you are serving adult cocktails or a toned-down version for children.

Strawberry or cherry flavored triple diamond energy drinks mixed with green sherbet makes a tasty fruit punch that resembles dirty bathwater as the sherbet melts. For an even more realistic effect, toss in some butter mints. The mints will float at the top as if they are bars of soap.

Another cocktail made with triple diamond energy drink is the 'bloody eyeball.' This is a strawberry margarita or daiquiri with a gruesome twist. Instead of a traditional fruit garnish, make bloody eyeballs on a stick using hallowed out lychees, some raspberry or strawberry jam or preserves and blueberries. If you are serving underage party goers, use triple diamond energy drinks and some non-alcoholic margarita or daiquiri mix.

Planning a Spooktacular Halloween Party is easy with some advance planning. Right games, food and drinks will definitely make your party a success and have your guests leaving wondering how you will measure up at next year's party.
